well, since our last post the cat has bagged a couple of mice – the latest reduced to a (small) pile of internal organs. nice!

elsewhere we are almost unpacked, though trying to figure out the central heating before the cold scottish winter fully descends. auntie meli is up visiting for a few days and cole has been busy baking for the macmillan coffee morning taking place at work. currently he is unable to move on account of the sheer volume of sugar and caffeine he has consumed this morning. oh the humanity!

anyone know a relatively humane way of getting rid of mice without harming a cat who seems intent on chasing them and an 18-month old bairn who seems intent on chasing the cat? answers on a postcard (or by posting comments) please

10 days, 52 boxes, 3 livestock trailer-loads (plus uncountable panda boot-loads), 4 fish and chips (and the rest!), 4 trips to ikea, 3 kitchen cabinets and a 6 pack of heineken later the 3 henleys are at long last in their new abode. uma/oomps did a sterling effort at relieving us of gethin for an intense period getting all the henley gubbins over to our new place followed by an intensive period of unpacking and getting the storage sorted. almost there – just a few touchs in the kitchen and some shelves in the living room to go. haven’t even considered redecorating yet as the herculian effort that would be required to remove the half-inch thick patterned wallpaper that adorns the property throughout (floor and ceiling) doesn’t bear thinking about.

just about managed to squeeze the furniture in, ably (and gratefully) assisted by fraser and ben, and it is amazing how much stuff we managed to squeeze into the 2 bedroom place we were in before. have met the neighbours who seem lovely.

thank you so much to everyone that has made the move possible – both set of grandparents plus great-grandparents ken and don have been so kind in providing financial assistance in getting the house, uma and oomps for taking away the pressure of watching gethin whilst filling, transporting and emptying boxes, ryan and shelley for their removal and cleaning services respectively, fraser for helping to shift stuff and especial thanks to ben for providing the means to move all our big stuff as well as going above and beyond the call of duty in lugging furniture up stairs and through doorways that physics and logic dictate should not have been possible. thanks also to everyone that has wished us well in our new home.

will try to get a post up about gethin’s latest developments (including a new coiffe) asap but with no internet at home the henleys have only sporadic access to the interweb at the moment – how did we all manage before broadband?

a quick post whilst have internet access to say that all henleys and their possessions have now moved to new abode.

uma and oompa have (thank you SO much) been in charge of bairn whilst we shifted boxes, erected furniture and tidied the old gaffe. just the dreaded unpacking and a few trips to ikea to do now. will post snaps and more details when have more time…

this morning at 10 in the am the 3 henleys headed into lintlithgow to pick up the keys for our new abode. after some pootling and showers we got in the car and then sat in the tescos car park for a few minutes, nervous and procrastinating over embarking on this big new step in our lives. we wandered over to the solicitors and the keys weren’t ready so we popped over to findlaters on the high street for a spot of coffee whilst waiting for the phone call.

in less time than it takes to sip the frothy top off a latte the keys were ready for collection. we picked up the keys and headed over to our new gaffe, our first home.

we got in and snooped about the place before heading back for some hardcore packing and removals. cole’s spent most of the day to-ing and fro-ing with a panda full of boxes whilst p has been entertaining g, enjoying the last few rays of the scottish summer.

will be spending the next few days shifting more gubbins and uma and oompa are popping up to steal G for a few days so that we can focus on getting the new place straight.

will get some snaps up for your delectation asap.

1 week on from out last post and the big move rapidly approaches. Been quite a hectic week as had to muster up some extra funds with hidden fees seemingly appearing at a rate of knots (2.6k and rising so far) but have managed to keep on top of them, as long as no more rear their ugly heads! still, all set for an exchange on the 14th and both C + P have booked the week off work for moving and getting the place straight(ish). Uma and oompa are up checking out properties in the borders so they will no doubt be roped into some bairn sitting/stealing whilst boxes are filled, moved and emptied.

the packing has been on the back burner this week – the henley’s enjoyed a visit from cole’s uncle michel for a couple of days who was up catching the tail end of the fringe in edinburgh. and cole is off to a web conference in brighton for a few days leaving P home alone.

young G has been on top form these past couple of weeks. he is quite mobile, chatty and cheeky to boot with a constant mischevious grin on his face. he has been quite clingy too and has discovered the delicate art of shouting – usually restricting such outburst to the most public of settings with loud outcries of ‘mummy’ and ‘daddy’. awwwww.

he has also mastered the unlocking of the keypad on dad’s mobile phone and can regularly be found sending numerous text messages to the AA.

so, all well in the henley household. looking forward to at long last having our own home – a place to make and call our own and also the space to maybe think about bairn ii (though not quite yet).

saying that we will all be sad to move away from the cottages that we have been in for the past 2 years. we have had some amazing neighbours who are now friends for life and have been so fortunate to be in such lovely surroundings. it has been the perfect spot for us to raise G up in and we will sorely miss the community feel we have had in Bonnytoun. will try to keep you posted but not sure how regularly we will be able to access computer (or how quickly we will be connected in new abode).

stay tuned for house-warming dates…
